Human-Centered Design/UX Design
2015
User experience design, prototyping an app that helps people consider energy
use when buying large appliances. Performed needfinding with users in their
homes and at point-of-sale locations. Responsible for the appliances module
within the greater context of the Howpower project, part of the ARPA-E funded
Energy Behaviour initiative at Stanford.
The design features friendly, accessible language rendered in a serif typeface.
The application is structured to follow the buying process, and provides process
guidance at each step. Most importantly, it features a persistent efficiency
range comparison expressed in annual operating cost, an approach supported by
research to positively bias buying decisions toward energy efficient products.
